Yesterday “El Rushbo” joined the Republican’s bandwagon echoing their deflection de jour away from the current issues, policies, and legislation that together makeup the War on Women by bloviating about a CNN commentator’s remark that Ann Romney has never worked a day in her life. The comment, not the best choice of words,were made by a working mother in response to Mitt’s claims that his wife is his source for understanding what is important to women these days.

In his discussions about this issue, Rush reffered to women in the media as “clucking hens.” He said feminism “Changed Forever The Normal Human Nature Relationships Between Men And Women.” And that the “Infobabe” At CNN “Cut Feminism Off At The Knees” By Saying women want choice between working, staying home. Limbaugh Boycott: Clear Channel Exec Tries to Appear Confident – We Know Better!

Tuesday evening the AP released a story written based on an interview with the Chairman of Clear Channel, Bob Pittman.   His response is pure PR- anyone who is familiar with marketing can spot a campaign here. With overconfidence, he minimizes the “outrage” at Limbaugh by saying it’s “part of the normal day-to-day of talk radio.”

When he refers to the advertisers who have left, he frames it as if that is all done and over, it, “did not have a major impact on the company and there has not been a major move among stations to drop Limbaugh.”

MEDIA MATTERS IS NOT OUR LEADER

This post is not meant to slam MM- the work they do is important, we simply want to make it clear that our involvement wasn’t originated by following a leader or answering a call from MM.

Limbaugh’s paid employees along with the big guy himself have started a media campaign designed to blame the effort to boycott  his advertisers  on a long-standing effort by Media Matters to rid the airways of the poison Limbaugh feeds his GOP audience.  Limbaugh’s staff claim their boss is the victim of a years-long conspiracy  and refer to us all as terrorists.

Not so in the case of just about every effort I have discovered scattered throughout social media including our own here! 

The people behind this effort to boycott sponsors are not like Limbaugh’s own listeners who follow their leader like lambs. We are think-for-ourselfers.  I left the following comment on yet another article  about Media Matters supposed “leadership.”

“I am so tired of hearing this speculation that Media Matters is behind the efforts to remove Limbaugh from our publicly accessed, free, airways.  I have two daughters in their 20’s, beautiful, educated and outspoken. They both take contraceptive pills. Neither of my daughters is a “sl*&” Just typing the word disturbs me. There is NO WORD that a woman can aim and shoot at a man that cuts as deep, demeans and diminishes a person. How does Rush Make his Money?

What can we do to be sure to get rid of Rush for GOOD? The consensus from the experts on the advertisers 2 week vacation is that they all hope we have a short attention span and by keeping these sponsors out of the spotlight for two weeks we will forget about it and leave them alone. Will we?

How does Limbaugh make his money? Is it more important to boycott national sponsors or local sponsors? Should we be making contact with the stations themselves? So far the answer is all of the above.

What does Premiere pay Limbaugh for and do they, in turn, make their money? Do they get income from affiliates? Do they just make money on national advertisers? Do local advertisers pay Premiere or local stations?  Tonight we watched three reports of Limbaugh’s “2 week national sponsor vacation” and heard three different takes on what this means and how Limbaugh’s show makes him 50 million a year… so lets get to the bottom of this.

There are hints here in Rush’s own words  in a statement he made last week (below.) He explained to his audience how it works, or how he’d like them to think it works. We still beleive the key to taking him off the air for good it tell local advertisers to stop advertising on local stations – over all, not just rush’s show! Tell sponsors that as long as they support Limbaugh’s affiliates wo choose to play his show, you won’t be purchasing their products or services. KEEP THE PRESSURE ON DURING THIS 2 WEEK “VACATION” – lets not stop this, lets ratchet it up.

Listen to Rush Beg Affiliates to Stay while National Advertisers Take 2 Week BREAK

This is a recorded message Limbaugh gave to his affiliates – who carry his show. He apologizes to his affiliates and begs for them to stick with him…..  http://youtu.be/8LU-5dB4BZc   Today the company that owns his show announced that they will suspend NATIONAL advertising for two weeks.  Don’t forget, national sponsors are important, but the focus should be on local affiliates and their local sponsors. If he is driving LOCAL advertisers away will they keep him in their line-up?

Let’s start a campaign to contact local affiliates and urge them to take Rush off the Air! And lets keep up the boycott of any advertiser who has  not INDEPENDENTLY SAID THEY WILL WITHDRAW THEIR ADS FROM LIMBAUGH’S SHOW. They need to understand that we have a long attention span, and that a two week vacation is not going to make us disappear!

Premiere’s biggest competitor is now peddling a new Mike Huckcabee show that will play in the time slot Rush owns – perhaps some of those station should be signing on to that show if they need to feed a hungry right wing audience.

But more important as this drama unfolds, we hope that the local and national radio stations -right or left -and their talk-show hosts, whose rhetoric and entire shows have been feeding the war on women for years, will consider a different way to share their messages.

It is time to stop the war on women.
